DarkLake Thoughts

One Card, Three Times, Two Days

23/10/2016
I do a Daily Tarot Draw on my phone as I wake up and prepare for my day.

I don't always have the time to devote to the usual process of grounding and centering myself like I do out of habit when I use my physical deck [especially when my mornings consist of shoveling food in my face and trying to dash out of the house without tripping over my cat!], so I utilize a little bit of urban witchcraft and two nifty apps: The Galaxy Tarot app and the Golden Thread Tarot app.

[If you don't have them already on your phone, go and download them- they're both free!]

Anyway, the results of these two apps' Daily Draws I use as my little message for the day.  Sometimes it works as a forecast of events- for example, both times that I have gotten amazing, positive news, I've drawn the Page or King of Cups!  Sometimes it's just a 'heads up about managing my expectations or tempers.  Little things like that.  These musings and lessons learned I've now been posting on my Instagram [@darklaketarot of course!]

Sometimes, and very rarely, I get a repeating card- and for a piece of technology it's easy to dismiss something like that as a glitch- but I record it just the same.

But today, I've received the same card not only as a repeat of yesterday's draw on the Galaxy App, but also on the Golden Thread app.   Too odd to not pay even closer attention to than normal.

So let's talk about that!

So, the card in question is the King of Pentacles.

I first got this card reversed on the 22nd of October in the Galaxy Tarot app [with the Golden Thread app giving me the reversed Tower].  Today the Galaxy Tarot app gave me the reversed King of Pentacles again, either by glitch or something else- but then the Golden Thread app gave me the upright King of Pentacles.

Interesting, right?

So in the RWS tradition the King of Pentacles- like the rest of the Court Cards- usually point to the presence of a figure in your life, or an aspect of your being.

So what aspects does the King of Pentacles represent?  What in him reflects upon me?

Successful and ambitious.  Wealthy, financially secure, generous with their spoils.  Thoughtful.  Family-oriented.

As a Taurus Rising and someone who is heavily Earth-centric in my natal chart, I fucks with this card [it's also aligned to Taurus astrologically!].  In this I see not only the values I hold but the goals I wish to reach.

On the flip side, the negatives of the King of Pentacles are also reflected:

Materialistic, exploitative, frivolous.  Indulgent of vices.  Acting out of fear, not love or nurture.  A workaholic.

So this also reflects upon me- the easy way my good intentions can be twisted and used to create animosity and abandonment.  How quickly I can justify an indulgence when I probably really shouldn't.  How I will work and work and work because the financial security is what society has drilled into my head as the key to happiness, and not my relationships or my family or even my own needs for self-care.

Sure that's uncomfortable to admit, but it's important truth to know, and acknowledge, and accept.

So then, what does this mean?  When a card appears twice, it's like it's there with an extra exclamation point.  When it appears a 3rd time, it's a cry from the mountaintops- especially when the orientation suddenly differs.

Don't lose sight of me!  I'm fucking important!

Compare it to what tarot-readers would refer to as a 'jumper' card- when we shuffle the deck with a question on our minds and a card or two 'jumps' out of our hands.

So what is the message for me here?  What is the Message From The Dark Lake?*

"This tendency to work yourself to the bone?  Make sure you're doing it for the right reasons- not for money or power or possession- but for the betterment of those you love and hold dear to you, and to enjoy the fruits of your labours with them.

Don't talk yourself into spending in excess just because you feel you can.  Reward yourself but do it smartly.

And remember that above all, your efforts are worth the payoff.  And the payoff will be glorious."

*#MessagesFromTheDarkLake is what I've been using to document my own tarot readings on Instagram - and starting on Oct 30th [right before Samhain/Halloween AND a Scorpio New Moon!] I'll be offering these to you!!
